Terms of Grant

Purpose:

To encourage students to enroll in an a accredited German language, business, arts, music, sports, etc. program in the Stuttgart area.   The grant should aid the student in his/her personal, academic, or professional development.
To encourage St. Louis metro-area teachers to take their class on an international, educational exchange to Germany.  First preference will be given to programs in the city of Stuttgart; second preference to programs in Baden-Württemberg, and third preference to programs elsewhere in Germany.

Grant Amount:

Variable.  Maximum grant $1000.00

Eligibility:

High School Students
Must be enrolled in a St. Louis metro-area high school
Must have completed at least two years of high school German with a grade of "B" or better
Must have an overall grade point average of a "B" or better
Must return to school upon return from study abroad
College Students
Must be enrolled in a St. Louis metro-area college or university, or maintain permanent residency in the St. Louis metro-area
Must have completed at least two semesters of college-level German with a grade of "B" of better
Must have an overall grade point average of 3.00 of better.
Must return to school upon return from study abroad

Application:

Submit a letter of application stating purpose of trip and specific use of grant money
Attach a copy of academic transcripts
Attach one letter of reference from a German teacher/professor addressing applicant's language proficiency and emotional maturity to function abroad

Stipulations:

Grant money must be refunded to SLSSC if the program is not completed
Applications must reach SLSSC, in full, no later than 01 April, for priority consideration
